History of Dieng Volcanic Activity

Volcanic activity in Dieng, the number of year: 2013, 2011, 2009, 2005, 1993, 1986, 1981, 1979, 1964, 1956, 1954, 1953, 1952?, 1944, 1943, 1939, 1928, 1883-84, 1847, 1826, 1825, 1786, 1776, 1375. History of Dieng Volcanic Activity :

1939

Phreatic eruption (13 October – 3 November). Cracks caused slope and produced mudflow.

1944

(4 December). The rainfall mixed with ash and mudflow occurred in some villages; Kepakisan, Sekalem, Sidolok, Pagerkandang, Djawera, and Kepakisan-Lor. The disaster caused 59 victims died, 38 victims injured (including burns), and 55 victims missing.

1979

(20 February). Sinila Crater produced carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide (H2S). The recorded data show the victims of this tragedy were 147 died and 17.000 people from six villages nearby were evacuated.

1992

(18 March). Poisonous gas appeared in around a river located 200 m away on the west side of Sikidang Crater. It caused the death of 1 victim.

2009

(16 January). The status of Sibanteng Crater was cautious. (1-19 September) There were two volcanic earthquakes. (20-23 September) One volcanic earthquake occurred. (24 September) Another volcanic earthquake happened. (26-27 September) Phreatic eruption occurred in Sileri Crater.

2011

(23 May). The status was announced from Normal (Level I) to Cautious (Level II). Afterward, on 29 May 2011 the status was increased from Cautious (level II) to Warning (Level III).

2013

(11 March). Timbang Crater’s status was changed from Normal (Level I) to Cautious (Level II).
